Project Description: Anaerobic Digestion & Electricity Generation
- This project was the first complete-mix anaerobic digester in Michigan.
- The initiative incorporated a two-tank AD system (tanks 80' diameter), two 350 kW gensets and equipment for downstream processeing of separated digestate liquid.
- A heat exchanger collects waste heat from the generators for heating the AD tanks.
- Utilizing research and support provided by Phase 3, the project owner implemented the first commercial co-feeding of by-products of ethanol production to increase the biogas productivity from dairy manure.
- The renewable energy production provides on-site electrical power as well as
excess power for sale to the local utility grid.
- The site has successfully completed the transition from sand to biofiber bedding.
- Partial funding for this project was provided by a USDA grant award.
